How to play rummy online

The aim of rummy is to get rid of all your cards before your opponent does.

You can play Bridge online, free on our 'Hand Of The Day' page. There you'll find a new hand each day and 5 Bridge hands from our archive or Subscribe to 60SecondBridge and you'll also have hundred's of Bridge hands (with expert commentary) to play, unlimited practice hands, daily competition, and much more. Play bridge online against the computer Bridge is a user-friendly card game played with four people in two teams of two. The drawback is that it is sometimes difficult to bring everyone together at the same time and in the same place.

One standard deck of 52 cards is used for classic rummy. Cards rank from low to high: Ace 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King

Start your turn by drawing a card from the top of the stock pile or the discard pile.

You dispose of cards by building melds which are made up of sets, three or four of a kind and the same rank; or runs, three or more cards in sequence and same suit.

An example set is the 7 of diamonds, 7 of hearts and 7 of spades.

An example run is the 4 of clubs, 5 of clubs and 6 of clubs.

When you have built a set or run it will automatically be taken from your hand and placed on the table.

Play

Cards can also be added to the sets and runs which have already been laid down, this is called laying off.

You end your turn by discarding one card from your hand onto the discard pile.

Once a player has disposed of all of their cards, the other player's cards are scored.

Scoring:

Face card: 10 points

Ace: 1 point

All others: face value (4 = 4 points, 9 = 9 points, etc.)

Hands will continue to be dealt until one of the players reaches 100 points. The first player to reach 100 points loses the rummy game.

Layout

Your hand (SOUTH) is at the bottom of the screen, your partner (NORTH), controlled by the computer, is at the top. By default N/S will be dealt the higher point hands allowing you to play for declarer more often.

The declarer's contract is displayed at the top left as the team (N/S or E/W), the level (1-7), the trump suit (C, D, H, S or N) and the current up (+n) or down (-n) trick count.

Tricks won by the declaring team are collected at the bottom left. Tricks won by the defending team are collected at the bottom right. The cards in the last trick, for each team, can be viewed at any time by tapping on the pile.

Play

When it's your turn to play, drag a card from your hand (or North's hand if dummy) and drop it onto the transparent target area displayed near the center of the table ('S' for South or 'N' for North). If you drop it outside the target it will slide back to your hand. This is the computer equivalent of 'a card laid is a card played' giving you a chance to reconsider your choice before committing.

Here is the scoresheet for your current game. The scores are saved automatically on this device so that you may continue a game at a later time.
